How do you become an acupuncturist?

We had a great question from a patient last week- “How do you become an acupuncturist or naturopathic doctor?”

That’s a great question! It’s a long road, but it is worth it, read on below….

How do you become an acupuncturist?

Carleton Magus, LAc, moved to Washington in 2001 from the Midwest to attend Batsyr University. He started in the Herbal Sciences department and quickly progressed to Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in 2006. Along with having a wife who was in medical school at the time and celebrating the birth of all THREE children while he was in school, Carleton worked hard at school.  For six years he focused on taking courses to learn how to do acupuncture and how to prepare Chinese herbs (of course!) as well as classes in anatomy, nutrition, microbiology, medical Chinese and so many more!  In the last few years of his education, Carleton spent most of his time at the Bastyr clinic seeing patients for a total of 1,356 clinic hours as an intern. After clinical boards and graduation, in 2007 he bought Alpine Acupuncture and has enjoyed seeing patients from Issaquah, Sammamish, Bellevue, Renton, North Bend and the surrounding areas ever since! If you have any more specific questions here is the link to Bastyr’s program guide for acupuncture and herbal medicine or you can ask Carleton! Next week’s topic: “How do you become a Naturopathic Physician?” See you soon!

A strain, on the other hand, is defined as an injury to a muscle or tendon.
